Title:
  Us vs. Them
Read:
I read a story about a family who moved into an established neighborhood. This new family didn’t have a television. It’s not that they didn’t believe in TV, they just didn’t have one. Well, the neighbors got talking, speculating about why they didn’t have a TV. The stories snowballed and soon they all avoided speaking to the new neighbors because, well, “they were just too different.” And different must be bad. Sound familiar? It reminds me of the “Us vs. Them” mentality in our culture. Urban vs. rural, red states vs. blue states, men vs. women, white vs. black, right vs. left, Christians vs. non-Christians. The Us vs. Them thing especially bothers me when it comes to Us, we the Christians. When we start looking at non-Christians as Them, we might as well pull the gun from the holster and shoot ourselves in the foot. In fact we might as well empty the clip into our foot. Our call is to love people, all people, no matter the color of the state, their skin, or their religion. God is love. We must be too.
