Surprise Party |
Read: |
|
Taylor, our baby girl, turned 16 yesterday. Mary and I had planned this huge surprise party for her and when we arrived with the birthday girl, there were cars all over the neighborhood. We tried to act cool, but it was a little late to feign innocence and try to pretend there wasn’t a dragon under the blanket when she could see the whole tail sticking out. The door opened, the “Surprise!” rang out, Taylor blushed, and the party was on. The party got me thinking about my Surprise Me experiment. I wonder if each day of our lives God has planned a party for us…a party called Today. We wake up and he sings to us through birds, he hugs us with the arms of our friends, he plants surprises all along our paths and if we have eyes to see and slow down enough to look, we find traces of his fingerprints all over our days. We find packages—loving, thoughtful presents carefully tucked in just the right places so we’ll find them at just the right time. I love parties, and God sure knows how to throw a good one. |
