High/Low |

Our family has a little game we play at the dinner table. We call it High/Low. I don’t know where it came from, but we like it. Here’s how it works. We go around the table and everybody tells us their low-point of the day and then we go around again and hear about the highlights of the day. Nothing fancy, but it gets us talking, gets us into each other’s lives. On this night I had grilled teriyaki kabobs and as we were munching, we talked. Our lows ranged from test scores to a situation with a friend to a stubbed toe. Highs ran pretty much the same gamut, minus the toe incident. My high, as usual, was that very moment, sitting around the table together. Looking into the eyes of the people you love is about as good as it gets. Match that with teriyaki kabobs and you’re looking at one happy camper. God sees us through a lifetime of highs and lows, and one of the ways he does that is by giving us families, people who know us intimately, and still love us deeply. Today, my greatest surprise was knowing that I get to be a part of this family. |
