The Fleece |

I came downstairs this morning, popped a slice of sour dough in the toaster and flipped on the Today show. Today is the first day of my 30-day “Surprise Me, God” experiment, where I wake up each day and pray those three words and then keep a journal of what it looks like. So, as I’m eating and Katie Couric is going on about something in the background, I start thinking about the story of Gideon in the Bible—how he put out the fleece to test God. Remember that? Well, this Surprise Me thing seems like more of a test for me than God, so I did something a bit strange. I walked out the back door of our house, layed down on my back, flopped my arms out wide and said, “Here’s your fleece God. How about if I be the fleece for the next thirty days and see if I can hold your holy water, the dew that you rain down on me, the circumstances soaked with your presence.” Then I simply ended with, “Surprise Me, God.” Why don’t you join me this month. Be a fleece. Pray that prayer with me , “Surprise Me, God.” |
